The Medium Girder Bridge (MGB) is a classic piece of engineering and over 500 Medium Girder Bridging systems have been purchased by armed forces, notably the UK, USA, NATO allies and other Military organisations around the world.
The MGB is constantly in use – and increasingly in demand – for both military and Disaster Relief operations. MGB units are light, easily transported, can be constructed by hand and can be adapted for most tactical and rapidly deployable bridging requirements.
The modular MGB Medium Girder Bridge is rapidly deployable, adaptable and cost-effective
The MGB meets the evolving needs for bridging equipment across a wide spectrum of requirements, from short irrigation channels, through ravines to large expanses of water. Highly transportable, rapidly deployed, adaptable and cost-effective, it is ideal for a wide range of military or emergency and disaster relief situations.
MGB single span bridges can be built as:
Different bridge lengths are created by varying the number of bays used to suit the gap being crossed. Each bay is 1.83 metres (6ft) in length; a step change in gap crossing capability being achieved as each bay's configuration is changed from Single Storey to Double Storey and then to Double Storey with a link reinforcement.
The three MGB deployment options (all at MLC 70)
Single Storey to 9.8m
Double Storey to 31.1m
Double Storey with Link Reinforcement to 49.4m
MACH MGB (Mechanically Aided Construction by Hand) is a semi-mechanised bridge building system which reduces the size of construction crews from 25 to nine personnel without needing additional build time.
This is achieved by prefabricating MGB components into modules in a separate assembly area. The bridge is then constructed using a suitable crane or HIAB vehicle. MACH MGB uses standard MGB components, supplemented by special components designed to assist mechanical handling.
